Faith
'If I'd seen [God], really there, really alive, it'd be in me like a fever. If I thought there was some god who really did care two hoots about people, who watched 'em like a father and cared for 'em like a mother...well, you wouldn't catch me sayin' things like "There are two sides to every question," and "We must respect other people's beliefs." You wouldn't find me just being gen'rally nice in the hope that it'd all turn out right in the end, not if that flame was burning in me like an unforgivin' sword. And I did say burnin'...'cos that's what it'd be. You say that you people don't burn folk and sacrifice people any more, but that's what true faith would mean, y'see? Sacrifcin' your own life, one day at a time, to the flame, declarin' the truth of it, workin' for it, breathin' the soul of it. That's religion. Anything else is just...is just bein' nice. And a way of keepin' in touch with the neighbours...Don't chase faith, 'cos you'll never catch it. But prehaps, you can live faithfully.'

Awright!
Terry Prachett represent! I have yet to read "Small Gods", but if it is anything like his other works, it will be awesome :)
Although it's easy enough to say that kind of stuff looking from the outside, to say "I wouldn't be like you if I believed", without realising that you're still a faulty human being once you're saved, or that sometimes you still doubt. Not that I want to justify the apathy of most western Christians (myself included...a work in progress). It's just that sometimes being nice is all I've got the energy for, or all I've got the faith for, because my will is weak. That said, of course we should all aspire to greater things, and not settle for the way we are...
but what I really came to say is g'day Jared, I have a blog, inthedesert23.blogspot.com, please come visit sometime
w00t! as Mike already said: "Terry Pratchett Represent!" he is an AWEsome writer! one of the only writers i actually laugh out loud to! :D
Its true. this world is way too grey. But if we step one foot forward into trying to make things black and white, we become bigoted, and intolerant, and hated for that! :P
on another note i need more Pratchett time! in fact, i just need more time period!
